E-Readers in the MacPhaidin Library: Home

There are several exciting opportunities for patrons to borrow a Barnes & Noble Nook or an Amazon Kindle to experience reading a title on an e-reader. If you're interested in learning how to borrow a device, use this guide to learn more.

NEW FEATURES! - June 4th, 2012

New additions!  We've added some new titles requested by YOU!  Be sure to check out some new titles from Jody Picoult, James Patterson, and Nicholas Sparks.

Happy Hunger Games!  We've added Catching Fire and Mockingjay to complete the Hunger Games trilogy on the Nooks.  By popular demand, we've added The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo complete trilogy to the Kindles!  If you're interested in seeing how close the movies follow the books, be sure to reserve your Nook or Kindle today!

What to read next?  We are always taking suggestions for e-books to add to our program's collection!  If you have a suggestion, speak up!  Fill out our form or send an email from your Stonehill email address to acquisitions@stonehill.edu

Learning More

Are you interested in learning more about e-readers?  Have you seen Kindles and Nooks and wanted to try one?  Well, the MacPhaidin Library has five Amazon Kindles and five Barnes & Noble Nooks with e-book titles available to lend to patrons beginning in Spring 2012.  Use this page to learn more about how the program works and how you can try an e-reader.  We've created this guide to provide you with resources not just about our program works, but also with information about each of the e-readers.

Currently, our e-reader program is designed to allow Stonehill faculty, staff, and students to borrow a Nook or Kindle e-reader device and read an available title.  You can browse the new titles available for Nook and Kindle on the right, or search the catalog for the complete listing.  If you're unsure of what to read, we've even created a page of e-book reviews written by our intern, Lauren Moore.  You can read her reviews by using the What to Read? tab to learn more. We also encourage patrons to submit titles they'd like to read on a Nook or Kindle to help us expand our offerings.  Use the Requesting Titles tab to learn more.

How to Borrow an E-Reader

How To Borrow an E-Reader:

If you are interested in borrowing an e-reader, you will need to call the Circulation Desk at 508-565-1313 or stop by in person to see if one is available or to put your name on the list to borrow along with the title you wish to read.

How It Works:

  • Each e-reader may be loaned for 2 weeks.  At this time, no renewals are allowed as there is a high demand for the Kindles and Nooks.
  • When it is your turn to borrow a Nook or Kindle, you may pick it up in person at the Circulation Desk between 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. on Monday - Friday.  Staff will be on-hand to answer any questions you may have.
  • You will be required to sign a waiver listing the fines and fees associated with borrowing each e-reader.  The late fee is $5 per day up to $50 and the cost of replacement as a result of theft, loss, or destruction will be listed.
  • The wireless is to remain turned off on the device.
  • Due to copyright limitations, only one title will be available on the e-reader for your use.
  • No additional content is allowed to be downloaded to the e-reader during your use.
  • Please be kind to the next patron and return the device fully charged.
  • Do not return the device in the drop-box.  You will be fined for any damage incurred when doing so.
  • Included with the e-reader is a brief survey designed to collect feedback about your experiences with the e-reader.  If you would like to participate, please fill it out and return it with your device.

What Comes With Your E-Reader:

When you pick up your e-reader, it will be packaged in a neoprene pouch that will contain the following:

  • The Nook or Kindle you requested
  • USB cable and power adapter
  • Instructions on how to get started with your device
  • A brief survey
