Finding eBooks: Resources Available through the Library

Use this tab as your starting point for accessing the resources available through the MacPhaidin Library.  Currently, you can download e-books from:

Did you know that many of our additional Databases offer you the ability to download material as a PDF file?  PDF files can be saved to your computer and then transferred to your e-reader!  If you'd like to learn how to transfer PDF files to your e-reader, we've created a Working With PDF Files page to assist you.

Early English Books Online

The Early English Books Online (EEBO) collection contains digital facsimile page images of virtually every work printed in England, Ireland, Scotland, Wales, British North America and works in English printed elsewhere from 1473-1700.

Titles from EEBO can be downloaded as PDF or TIFF images either as full-text or by a page range.  You can either view the PDF files on your computer or transfer the file to an e-reader.  Since material is downloaded as image files, using a device such as an iPad (or iPhone or iPod), Kindle Fire, Nook Color, or a color tablet may be best if you wish to transfer the file to an e-reader.

Before downloading material, you'll want to make sure you have the latest version of Adobe Reader installed on your computer!

ebook Central

Ebook Central from ProQuest enables you to read, download and print portions of thousands of academic titles.  You can create a free account to access some of the enhanced features or read the titles online.

EBSCO eBooks

EBSCO eBooks has thousands of titles.  All of the titles can be read online.  Many titles will also permit you to print sections of the text.  If you create a free account, you can use advanced features like annotating and bookmarking.

Off-campus access to most of the library's databases is available. In order to use these resources from home, you will need to log in using your MyHill credentials - your username and password.
