The new edition of this work contains more than 4,000 entries arranged alphabetically. Entries are extensively cross referenced and many are accompanied by illustrations, graphs or charts.

This dictionary includes close to 5,400 terms in the field of environmental science. The entries are extensively cross-referenced and an appendix provides a list of defined acronyms and abbreviations, scientific units and conversions and a variety of statistical data.

This reference work is subtitled; "A Selective Reference Guide to Environmental Organizations and Related Entities". Close to 500 entries are given for the following organizations: environmental non-governmental organizations, governmental organizations, multinational organizations, political organizations, other interested parties (such as business groups and labor unions), opposing view groups and other entities and websites of note.

This two-volume set is designed to give its readers an "accessible introduction" to topics including energy production, energy use, and how technologies impact the environment.
