The BJS collects, analyzes, publishes, and disseminate information on crime, criminal offenders, victims of crime, and the operation of justice systems at all levels of government. These data are critical to federal, state, and local policymakers in combating crime and ensuring that justice is both efficient and evenhanded.

Crime in the United States is the annual publication in which the FBI compiles volume and rate of crime offenses for the nation, the states, and individual agencies. This report also includes arrest, clearance, and law enforcement employee data.

In addition to providing access to Crime in the United States and Uniform Crime Statistics, the FBI website provides a host of other statistics, serves as a portal to each of the state-based sexual offender registries and offers a weath of historical materials on notorious criminals and famous crimes.

This website provides access to information about the Massachusetts State Police, the state's Emergency Management Agency, and the Departments of Correction and Fire Services.

This resource was created through a cooperative effort between jurisdictions hosting public sex offender registries (“Jurisdictions”) and the federal government and is offered free of charge to the public. These Jurisdictions include the 50 states, U.S. Territories, the District of Columbia, and participating tribes.

Four annual publications, Crime in the United States, National Incident-Based Reporting System, Law Enforcement Officers Killed and Assaulted, and Hate Crime Statistics are produced from data received from over 18,000 city, university/college, county, state, tribal, and federal law enforcement agencies voluntarily participating in the program. The crime data are submitted either through a state UCR Program or directly to the FBI’s UCR Program.
