What's Here

Welcome

This guide has been designed to give you easy access to the resources for this course.  The home page provides information about how to contact the librarians or make an appointment for research assistance.  You'll also find information about how to reach the Tutoring Services center for subject tutoring and writing support.

The tabs at the top of the page will allow you to navigate to pages where you'll find the following types of resources:

Scholarly Sources - On this page, you will find definitions for phrases commonly used to describe scholarly literature including 'peer-review' and 'professional literature'.  You will also find a brief video the outlines the differences between scholarly and popular sources.

Finding Articles - This page will explain how to locate full-text copies of articles in library databases.  Additionally, you will find an annotated list of databases used most frequently in biology and anthropology courses, directions describing how to locate an journal article if you have a citation, instructions on ordering materials through interlibrary loan, and a link to Google Scholar.

Why Cite - This page explains the reasoning behind why we cite sources, why it's better to paraphrase rather than directly quote a source, and provides a few tips about how to cite and write to avoid plagiarism.

Citation Styles - This page links to online guides for a variety of citation styles, used in different academic disciplines.  Click on the box of your preferred citation style to be brought to online resources.
