Step 3 - Exploration
Now that you have a general idea of your topic and have read about it online and in reference books, you can begin looking for material in library resources. To make that easier, librarians have developed LibGuides - web pages that organize library resources (catalog, databases, relevant websites and more) by subject. LibGuides are a good place to start your research. The information below explains how to access LibGuides and how to navigate them.
ACCESSING LIBGUIDES
There are two ways to access the LibGuides, via myHIll (first image) or via the library home page (second image).
To access the LibGuides via myHill, click on the "Library" on the top navigation bar. Once on the library's myHill site, click on "Subject and Class Guides" under the "Research Tools" heading.
To access the LibGuides via the Library home page, scroll down to the "Useful Resources" section and click on "Research Guides".
USING LIBGUIDE SUBJECT GUIDES
The LibGuide Home Page provides you to access to LibGuides arranged by discipline. From the home page, click on History. You will see multiple guides listed - the general "History Guide" and other course-specific guides. For this tutorial, we will focus on the general "History" Lib Guide.
THE HISTORY LIBGUIDE
All of our subject LibGuides, regardless of discipline, are organized in the same way. You navigate to the different types of resources - reference works, the library catalog, and databases, for example - using the tabs located at the side or top of the page. Each of these different types of resources will be explored in the lessons within this tutorial.
