Adding a Librarian to Your Canvas Course

Why Should You Add a Library to your Canvas Course?

In Canvas, you can add your Subject Librarian to your course in the Librarian.  This role allows your librarian to view, add, and modify content, as well as interact with your students.

This allows Librarians to:

  • Add library-related content to your course, such as video tutorials and self-paced research modules
  • Interact with your students
  • Provide feedback and assign grades related to library-based assignments. It does not give them access to the overall course Gradebook.

How to Add a Librarian to your Canvas Course

  1. Navigate to the course you are offering.
  2. Select “People” from the left-side navigation menu.
  3. Click the purple button labelled “+ People” on the right of page.
  4. Enter the email address or username of the person you would like to add.
  5. Select “Librarian” from the drop-down list of roles.
  6. Click “Next” to confirm your addition.
  7. Click the “Add Users” button.

Which Librarian Should You Add? Contact Your Subject Liaison.

Each Reference Librarian serves as a Subject Liaison for a group of Stonehill College departments. Liaisons focus on improving reference services to their assigned departments, contribute to collection development, and provide faculty with a personal point of contact for requesting acquisitions.
