NERCOMP 2013: Stonehill College's Faculty Librarian Partnership Program: Our Work

A history professor tried to engage his students into the research process by designing an assignment requring them to trace their ancestry. The librarian p produced a detailed library guide that gave step-by-step instructions for the research project, directions for maintaining a research log, and tips for conducting genealogical research.

Students in an upper level English course spent the semester examining textual issues related to Edumund Spenser's Faeire Queene. The professor and the librarian partner desgined a library guide that led students along a path of increasignly sophisticated research. This course also featured the library partner's presence in the classroom and participation in a learning management system discussion forum.

A member of our music faculty partnered with a librarian to create a framework to provide research support to students throughout the semester. The partnership included creation of a detailed class guide, mandatory student meetings with the librarian partner and the librarian's participation in the class.

A freshman honors history class spent the semester studying The United States Declaration of Independence and other declarations issued around the world. The librarian partnership included in-class instruction, the development of a library guide and the creation of a class blog where students answered research questions using increasingly sophisticated sources and search strategies.
