What's Here

Welcome

This guide has been designed to give you easy access to the resources frequently used when completing a college writing assignment.  You can use the tabs at the top of the page to access specific resources.  These resources include:

Finding Books and Videos -  Listed on this page are some suggested book titles for further information about college-level writing. This page will also give you access to two catalogs, HillSearch (the MacPhaidin Library catalog) and the WorldCat catalog.  HillSearch will list all books, periodicals, audiovisual materials, government documents, and databases held in our library.  The WorldCat catalog contains records from libraries across the country and around the world.  It can be used to order items from Interlibrary Loan.

Finding Articles - When you click on this tab, you will be presented with an annotated list of the electronic databases used most frequently for topics in writing.  These databases will provide you with access to articles appearing in scholarly, peer-reviewed journals, as well as items published in popular sources such as news magazines, newspapers, and trade publications.

Evaluating Web Sources - If you're thinking of citing an unfamiliar website in your academic paper, first consult this tab for strategies that will help you evaluate web content for authority, credibility and currency.

Citing your Sources - This page will direct you to a guide that provides you with instructions and examples of how to cite sources using a variety of citation styles.

Tutoring Services - Visit this tab for information about subject and writing tutors including availability and how to make an appointment.

Video Tutorials - Navigate to this page to learn more about how to construct an annotated bibliography or literature review.
