English Language Literacy (ELL): Home

Getting Started

This guide has been designed to give you easy access to the resources most frequently used for English Language Literacy (ELL) studies. The home page of this guide will provide you with information about accessing HillSearch, Interlibrary Loan, and other resources available on the Web. Use the tabs on the top of the page to access specific resources. Those resources include:

Books from the Catalog - This page contains a list of books that can be found at MacPhaidin Library, relevant to the topic of English Language Literacy (ELL).  The list is divided into reference books, print, and electronic books.

Finding Articles- When you click on this tab, you will be presented with an annotated list of the electronic databases used most frequently for education and English Language Literacy (ELL). These databases will provide you with access to articles and reviews appearing in scholarly, peer reviewed journals as well as items published in popular sources such as news magazines, newspapers and trade publications. This page will also provide you with a link to Google Scholar and the library's full text finder (the tool you can use to determine if we have electronic access to a particular journal.)

Web Resources - This page provides links to Web sites that have content relevant to the subject matter of this guide . New Web sites can be added as suggested.

Citation Guide - Your professors will likely specify which citation style he or she would like you to use. This page will provide you access to a one of the most frequently-used citation styles, MLA. This will also give you a link to RefWorks, an online citation tool.  LibGuides for other citation styles can be found here.

Apps - On this page, you will find links to free and pay-for apps that will engage ELL students in vocabulary acquisition and language games.

Use HillSearch to find articles and books all in one place:
HillSearch allows you to limit your search using "facets." Once you complete a search, you will see a list of links along the left-hand side of your serach results. To limit your results to a location in the library, a particular format, or language, chose the corresponding facet to limit your serach results.
More information about using HillSearch is available HERE.
